The Meaning

Baptism in water illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection in the same way it illustrates your new life as a believer. Jesus was baptized by immersion and the word “baptize” literally means “dip under water.” Baptism by immersion also symbolizes a burial and resurrection.

1 Corinthians 15:3

Christ died for our sins. He was buried and He rose again.

Colossians 2:12

When you were baptized you were buried with Christ and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17

When anyone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun.

Why Baptism

You should be baptized to follow the example set by Jesus, because Christ commands us to be baptized, and because it demonstrates you are a true believer.

Mark 1:9

And it came about in those days that Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the river.

Matthew 28:19

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

1 John 2:3

We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands.

Is It for Me?

Everyone who accepts Jesus as Savior should be baptized.

Acts 8:12

Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized.

Children

A level of spiritual maturity and understanding should exist before baptism; our practice is to children be baptized at no younger than 10 years old. This helps ensure their baptism is a spiritual marker in their life that they will remember.
